The National Institutional Ranking Framework, also known as NIRF, an initiative by the Government of India, comes beneath the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), which commenced in 2015. NIRF is a ranking methodology to position Academic institutions across the nation into a tier. This methodology is developed with metrics based on different parameters and criteria to create the framework. The parameters followed by NIRF include five broad heads and are divided further into sub-heads. The five Heads are Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) and Peer Perception. NIRF is one of the famous ranking methods in India, and it involves the enumeration of Intellectual Property Rights(IPR) as one of the primary parameters.
